Troop 600
Troop 600 is located in Oak Ridge, North Carolina and is sponsored by Oak Ridge Presbyterian Church.  The Troop meets every Monday night from 7:00 until 8:30.

Outings are the sizzle of Boy Scouting.  Each month, the Troop goes on an outing.  These outings have included a ski trip to Winterplace in WV, a spelunking trip to the Lost Sea in TN, a climbing and repelling weekend in the mountains near Boone, a beach trip to Fort Fisher on the NC coast, a whitewater rafting trip near Asheville,  a shotgun and rifle shooting weekend in Summerfield, a hiking trip to Rocky Knob in Virginia, a canoe trip down the Yadkin River in NC, and a backpacking trip on the Appalachian Trail.  Troop 600 maintains a base camp just across the border into Virginia.

Over half of the members of Troop 600 will be attending the National Scout Jamboree the summer of 2010 at Fort A.P. Hill.  We are taking the largest percentage of Scouts from any one Troop in the Old North State Council.

The Scouts of Troop 600 live the Scout Oath and the Scout Law.  We follow the directive of "Do a Good Turn Daily" and are known in our community for providing cheerful service.  We man the First Aid Booth during the spring carnival at the local elementary school, we serve at the Oak Ridge Horse Show, we lead the Scouting for Food drive in Oak Ridge, and we are working with our brother Scouts in Swaziland to help them construct a farm and a Scout's Own Service ring at their Scout camp.  You can learn more about our Swaziland Project here.

Troop 600 earned the Centennial Award in 2007 and 2008 and 2009 and the National Camping Award in 2007 and 2008 and 2009.  Troop 600 is the only Troop in the area that has earned both awards in every year of the existence of the Troop.  Although we are the newest troop in the 21 troop-strong Battlefield District, at the most recent annual Battlefield District Camp-O-Ree in May, Troop 600 won the over-all competition.  Our First Year Scout group placed second in the patrol competition, our Veteran Scout group placed first, and our Troop won the Campsite award.

Troop 600 was founded in August 2006 and has 31 registered Scouts and 21 registered Scouters.  Our Scoutmaster is an Eagle Scout and Wood Badge graduate and serves on staff for various Council training courses.  He recently received the Scoutmaster Award of Merit.  Our five Assistant Scoutmasters are trained as are many of our Troop Committee members.  We have 8 registered Eagle Scouts and 14 member of the Order of the Arrow.

Troop 600 is open to all boys ages 11-17.  Prior Scouting experience is not required.

Also, the concept of a "feeder pack" is an urban legend; Troop 600 is comprised of Scouts from six Packs and we welcome boys from all Packs, not just from Pack 600.  Parent's should seek to visit several Troops with their son and select the Troop that most represents Scouting as defined by the Scoutmaster Handbook.  Don't settle for an imitation.
